If you are looking at SIBM Pune, there is a good chance you have already heard the usual things — strong placements, a well-known Symbiosis brand, a beautiful campus and good corporate exposure.
All of that is true to an extent.
But if you are sitting with an SIBM offer and wondering whether you should actually spend ₹30 lakh or more on it, the question is slightly different.
Is SIBM Pune good enough to justify the money you will spend on it?
That is what we are trying to answer here.
Our view is fairly straightforward. SIBM Pune is one of the stronger private MBA options in India and deserves serious consideration. But it is not a college that every student should choose regardless of what other options they have.
The answer depends on your career plans, finances and, most importantly, the other colleges you have converted.
MBAComparison Decision Table
| Category | Rating (/10) | Verdict | Why it Matters |

| Will the MBA prepare you for today’s jobs? | 8.5 | Updated | The programme has moved beyond traditional management subjects and includes analytics, digital business, technology and AI-related areas. |
| How much will you interact with industry? | 8.8 | High | Strong corporate relationships, internships, competitions and recruiter interaction give students plenty of exposure outside the classroom. |

| What is student life actually like? | 9.4 | Excellent | A residential campus, facilities and active student environment make the two years quite immersive. |
| Does Pune work in your favour? | 8.6 | High | Pune gives students access to a strong corporate and technology ecosystem, with Mumbai also within reach. |

Final Recommendation

Ideal For: Students looking for a strong private MBA with good corporate opportunities, particularly in Marketing, HR, FMCG, BFSI, general management and related areas.
Not Ideal For: Students who would need to take on a very large loan without a comfortable repayment plan, or those whose only career objective is to enter MBB strategy consulting.

The Short Answer: Should You Join SIBM Pune?
If SIBM is one of your best available converts, yes, I would seriously consider joining it.
The latest official placement numbers are good. The 2024–26 batch reported an average CTC of ₹28.18 lakh and a median CTC of ₹27 lakh, with more than 110 recruiters participating.
But there is a catch.
SIBM is no longer a relatively inexpensive private MBA. Once tuition, hostel, mess and other expenses are added, you are looking at an investment of more than ₹30 lakh.
So the decision should not be:
“SIBM has a ₹28 lakh average package, so I should join.”
It should be:
“For the money I am putting in, is SIBM the best career opportunity I have?”
That is a much better way to look at the decision.

Why Do Students Pick SIBM Pune?
The SIBM name is useful — but don’t overvalue it
SIBM Pune has been around since 1978. That matters.
You are not joining a relatively new private college that is still trying to establish itself with employers. SIBM already has a long corporate history and an established alumni base.
It was ranked 11th in Management in NIRF 2025, which puts it firmly among the better-known management schools in the country.
But I would still put this in perspective.
SIBM is a strong private-school brand. It is not a substitute for the very top IIMs simply because it has a good ranking.
If you have IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta or another significantly stronger option, the calculation changes.
For a student whose alternatives are other private or newer B-schools, however, SIBM becomes a much more attractive proposition.
What this means for you: The SIBM name can help you, but don’t pay for the name alone. Pay for the combination of brand, placements, peer group and the career opportunities it can give you.
The Placement Numbers Are Genuinely Encouraging
This is probably the strongest part of SIBM’s case.
The latest official placement report for the 2024–26 batch shows:
₹28.18 lakh average CTC
₹27 lakh median CTC
₹74.84 lakh highest CTC
The top 10% of the batch averaged ₹39.76 lakh, while the top 50% averaged ₹29.83 lakh. More than 110 recruiters participated and SIBM reported 132 PPOs.
For a student, I would focus more on the median than the highest package.
₹74.84 lakh sounds impressive, but it is the upper end of the distribution.
The ₹27 lakh median tells you much more about what is happening around the middle of the batch.
It still doesn’t mean that you should expect ₹27 lakh personally. Your academic record, previous work experience, internship, specialisation and interview performance will all matter.
But overall, the placement data gives SIBM a strong position among private MBA schools.
What Kind of Jobs Can You Expect?
SIBM does not depend on just one industry.
The latest placement report shows recruitment across consulting and strategy, finance, general management, HR, operations and supply chain, sales and marketing, along with sectors such as BFSI, FMCG/FMCD, healthcare, IT/e-commerce and manufacturing.
That variety is important.
Suppose you enter the MBA thinking you want marketing and later discover that analytics or general management interests you more. A broad recruiter base gives you some room to change direction.
The same applies to students looking at finance, HR or operations.
One area where I would be realistic
If your only reason for choosing SIBM is:
“I want to get into McKinsey, BCG or Bain.”
Then I would compare your alternatives very carefully.
SIBM does have consulting and strategy recruitment, but it does not have the same depth of front-end strategy consulting opportunities as India’s strongest consulting campuses.
That doesn’t make SIBM weak.
It simply means that your career goal should match the college you choose.
Don’t Ignore the Summer Internship
The summer internship is often treated as a side detail when students compare MBA colleges.
It shouldn’t be.
SIBM’s 2025 summer internship report for the 2025–27 batch reported an average stipend of ₹2.96 lakh for two months, a median of ₹3 lakh and a highest stipend of ₹4.8 lakh. More than 80 organisations participated.
The internship matters for another reason.
It is your first serious opportunity to test what corporate life actually looks like.
And in some cases, it can turn into a PPO.
SIBM reported 132 PPOs in its latest final placement report, which shows that internships can play a meaningful role in the eventual placement journey.
Is the SIBM Curriculum Good Enough?
I would say yes.
The programme still covers the traditional management foundation, but the current curriculum also includes areas such as business analytics, R programming, data visualisation, machine learning, digital marketing, cloud and big data and AI/ML-related subjects.
That is a positive change.
An MBA today cannot be only about marketing, finance, HR and operations in the traditional sense. Managers increasingly need to understand data, technology and AI even when they are not working as technical specialists.
You will still have to build those skills yourself, of course. Taking a subject in analytics does not automatically make someone an analytics professional.
What this means for you: The curriculum gives you a useful base, but what you do with it — internships, projects, competitions and additional skills — will matter just as much.
What About Campus Life?
If campus experience matters to you, SIBM has a lot going for it.
It is a residential campus at Lavale, with classrooms, library facilities, computer labs, sports facilities, gymnasium and other student amenities.
The residential setup also changes the MBA experience.
You are spending two years around the same group of people, working on projects, participating in competitions, attending student activities and generally living the MBA rather than simply attending classes.
For some students, this is one of the best parts of SIBM.
For others, it may not be worth paying extra for.
And that is why we have given campus experience a 9.4, but not allowed it to dominate the overall score.
A beautiful campus is great.
It is not a substitute for a good job.
The Big Question: Is SIBM Worth ₹30 Lakh Plus?
This is where I would ask you to slow down before accepting the offer.
The latest official academic fee information needs to be considered along with hostel and mess charges. The total cost is substantially higher than tuition alone.
That means a student should think of SIBM as a ₹30 lakh-plus investment, rather than simply looking at the academic fee.
Now compare that with the latest ₹27 lakh median CTC.
On paper, it looks good.
But remember that CTC is not the same thing as take-home salary.
If you are taking a large education loan, your calculation should include:
- EMI
- interest
- living expenses after graduation
- the actual monthly salary you expect to receive
- the possibility that your first offer may be below the batch median
This is why our ROI rating is 8.1 rather than 9 or 10.
SIBM can give you a good financial outcome.
But it is not a bargain MBA.

Where SIBM Pune Scores Well
Strong corporate placements
The latest placement report is a genuine strength and not simply a marketing claim.
Good range of career options
Students have opportunities across several sectors and functions rather than being dependent on one industry.
A brand that has been around for decades
The 1978 legacy gives SIBM a mature alumni and corporate network.
Good internship opportunities
The latest summer placement data is another positive sign.
A modernising curriculum
Analytics, digital business and AI-related subjects make the programme more relevant to today’s workplace.
Strong campus experience
For students who want a residential MBA, SIBM is an attractive option.
What Would Make Me Think Twice?
The fee
This is the first thing I would discuss with your family.
If paying for SIBM means taking a very large loan, don’t look only at the average package.
Work out your EMI first.
Then ask whether you would still be comfortable if your first salary were below the average.
Your other converts
This is probably the biggest deciding factor.
If SIBM is competing against FMS, XLRI, SPJIMR, MDI or a top IIM, don’t make the decision based on SIBM’s reputation alone.
Compare the actual colleges, fees and career opportunities.
Consulting expectations
If you have your heart set on MBB consulting, SIBM should not automatically be your first choice simply because consulting firms recruit from campus.
Look at the depth of those opportunities.
Don’t assume every SIBM graduate earns ₹28 lakh
The average is useful for judging the school.
It is not a promise made to you.
Who Should Join SIBM Pune?
I would be comfortable recommending SIBM to a student who has:
A good SIBM convert and no clearly better option.
That is the simplest way to put it.
It is also a good fit if you are interested in Marketing, HR, Finance, Operations, Supply Chain or general management and want a recognised private B-school with strong corporate connections.
It can also be a very good second route for students who did not get the CAT result they expected but have done well in SNAP.
And if you enjoy a residential campus, student activities and a fairly immersive MBA experience, SIBM becomes even more attractive.
SIBM Pune vs Other Colleges
| College | Why Students Consider It | When I Would Look at It Instead |
|---|---|---|
| FMS Delhi | Exceptional ROI and very low fee | If you have an FMS convert, the huge fee difference makes this a very difficult alternative to ignore. |
| XLRI Jamshedpur | Strong brand, HR and general management | If you want HR, consulting or general management and have an XLRI option. |
| SPJIMR Mumbai | Strong industry integration and corporate exposure | Worth serious comparison for students targeting consulting, marketing and general management. |
| MDI Gurgaon | Strong corporate ecosystem and NCR location | Particularly attractive if you prefer the Delhi-NCR corporate market. |
This is not meant to be a ranking.
The college that is “better” on paper may not be better for your career goal.
For example, a student interested in HR may make a different choice from someone targeting finance. A student taking a ₹30 lakh loan will also look at the decision differently from someone paying largely from savings.
Our Final View
Should you join SIBM Pune?
Yes — but don’t join it blindly.
Our overall rating is 8.6/10, and we have rated it Highly Recommended.
The case for SIBM is quite strong. You have a recognised brand, good placement numbers, a broad recruiter base, a solid internship ecosystem, a relevant curriculum and an established alumni network.
The latest official placement numbers are particularly encouraging: ₹28.18 lakh average CTC and ₹27 lakh median CTC for the 2024–26 batch.
But the fee means you should ask one more question before accepting:
“What else can I get for the same money?”
If SIBM is your best realistic convert, I would not hesitate to recommend it.
If you have FMS, XLRI, SPJIMR, MDI or a strong IIM convert, take another look before making the final decision.
And if you are taking a large education loan, do the EMI calculation first.
Because ultimately, choosing an MBA is not about getting into the college with the biggest name.
It is about finding the college where the money you spend, the career you want and the opportunities you are likely to get actually make sense together.
